Marisa, only sixteen, chews nervously on her fingernails as she sits alone in the waiting room at the local abortion clinic. Staring at the clock, she begins to ask herself questions as the time for her appointment grows nearer. How could one mistake make her family kick her out? Once she had the abortion would her family welcome her home? Had her own other thought of having an abortion and denying Marisa the right to live? Who was she having this operation for: herself, her family, or the child? Tears filled her eyes as she thinks those words–“the child.” With renewed strength, she stands up and walks out of the clinic, refusing to deny her baby the right to life because after all, God has a plan even in chaos.
I support Mike Huckabee’s opposition to abortion and Pro Choice groups that believe a woman has the right to end her pregnancy. Life-in all forms-is precious, and should not be taken away from anyone. Also like Huckabee, I am in favor of a constitutional amendment which would outlaw abortions, and I praise the Supreme Court’s 2003 decision to uphold the ban on late-term abortions, or “partial birth” abortions. The Constitution guarantees all men the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” That statement alone declares all types of abortion as unconstitutional because once a woman is pregnant, she is carrying a living being inside her, no matter what stage the being is.
Supporters of Pro Choice groups say that while they may not be pro-abortion, they are not against it either. Pro Choice groups give the woman the right to decide to end her pregnancy because they believe if she is not given this right, then the Constitution is violated. But should a person be able to chose to end someone’s life? Is that a decision to be left in the hands of another being? Is murder not punishable under law?
Abortion is wrong under every circumstance in my eyes because abortion is murder. Murder is unconstitutional, and therefore so is abortion. Everyone should be allowed the chance to live, to love, to change the world. Who are you to deny an unborn child this right?Megan Sexton
