One of the fastest growing cost components in the U.S. is health care. The average cost of health care of an employer for a family of four is 11,500 dollars and the cost is continuously rising. Almost 47 million Americans live without health insurance and 8.3 million of those Americans are helpless children. Health care coverage has become one of the largest issues facing the American population today, therefore, making it among the most important issues in the 2008 presidential election. Help providing adequate health care coverage and cutting cost is what is desired in presidential candidates (http://www.nchc.org/facts/cost.shtml).
With the rising cost in health insurance premiums for employers, Americans cannot afford to take advantage of job-based health insurance and are having to live without benefits. The increase in people living without health insurance coverage is leading to an increase in deaths and also an increase in debt. This past semester in my history class, I watched a movie clip on the increasing rates of health care and watched how people lived without the luxury of health insurance coverage. One man on the show had cancer and had to receive a treatment with no insurance to pay with because he had been fired from his job due to his illness. The man and his wife had to sale their home and move in with one of his children just so he could start paying off medical bills. Americans need someone who can ensure them that they will be insured in their time of need.
The problem with health care is not just that people cannot afford it; the problem is not all people have the luxury of health care. Approximately 82 million Americans below the age of 65 spent part of the year without health coverage. My family was among those 82 million people due to one of my parents lost of jobs. We were left living on the fear that something would happen and medical help would either not be granted because we did not have insurance, or that we would be left with an outrageous medical bill. That period in my life opened my eyes to how necessary health coverage is to everyone; therefore, I was shown that America needs a president who will work hard to provide this necessity for his country (http://www.nchc.org/facts/cost.shtml).
Since health care is a major issue among presidential candidates for the 2008 election, America is seeking a leader who will provide what is needed. Mike Huckabee is one candidate who is ensuring lower health care cost and preventative health care coverage. Mike Huckabee knows that Americans are concerned with the issue of health care, so he and many others will be addressing this issue before people head to polls. It is important for Americans to vote for someone who is going to help ensure that their needs will be provided for because anybody can be the one left without anything to get them medical help if a change is not made (http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=About.Home).
