Ready to Vote

When you turn 18, will you be ready to vote?

Step up!

"A man ought to vote with the whole of himself, as he worships or gets married. A man ought to vote with his head and heart, his soul and stomach, his eye for faces and his ear for music." G. K. Chesterton (1874-1936)

Gilbert Keith Chesterton lived a long time ago, but he had a point about voting - a man (or a woman) should vote with passion, because how you vote does make a difference. But what if you couldn't vote and everybody else could?

1872 - USA:
The 15th Amendment is ratified. Citizens of any race can vote - as long as they are men! But there's another catch - Native American men are not citizens!
1920 - USA:
19th Amendment is ratified. Women over 21 can vote - and about time! But if you're a Native American woman you're still out of luck!
1924 - USA:
Native Americans become US citizens - duh! Finally they can vote. It sure took long enough!
1972 - USA:
26th Amendment is ratified. The voting age changes from 21 to 18. So now you can drive yourself to the polls.
Right Now - USA:
80 percent of 80-year-olds vote but only 20 percent of 20-year-olds do. Let's change that!
